IDES OF MARCH

ET2BRUTE - IDES OF MARCH - Released 3/15/03
Dateline 2003: It is the year 2003 and the “unintended trilogy” is now complete. The latest harder-edged alternative/neo-classic rock release, IDES OF MARCH became available (coincidentally enough) on March 15. I believe it is the best thing our band, ET2BRUTE AND THE CONSPIRACY, has ever done. Of course, I had the same thought after the first two CD’s were completed.

While it is true that the new one has some of the “by-now familiar” JFK Assassination themes and references that are prevalent in the first two CD’s, I think of this one as more of a “POST-JFK Assassination” CD, rather than an “EXCLUSIVE-JFK Assassination” CD (THE TRUTH BECOMES FOLKLORE) or a “RELATIVELY-EXCLUSIVE-JFK Assassination” CD (TODAY’S HISTORY IS YESTERDAY’S NEWS).

By "POST-JFK Assassination" CD, I mean that every society is the sum total of its history. We are, in fact, who we are today as a direct result of everything we have experienced and endured in our past. Due to the fact that the Kennedy Assassination was never properly investigated and the facts were never truthfully revealed to the general public by an unbiased truth-seeking commission, it has become a tragedy without closure that we continue to experience and endure to this day.

Now, I am sure that the people who decided to kill President Kennedy had their reasons.

They may have thought that he was "too soft on Communism"; that he didn’t do enough at the time of the Bay of Pigs invasion; or that he acquiesced too easily to Khruschev over the Berlin Wall and the Cuban Missile Crisis. They may have thought he was too liberal in the Civil Rights area. Or maybe it was simply a case of revenge and self-preservation when the decision to kill him was made. He had, afterall, fired long-time CIA Director Allen Dulles and threatened to “splinter the CIA to a thousand pieces” after the Bay of Pigs fiasco in 1961.

Whatever the reason(s), I believe that it is a direct result of the JFK Assassination (and the subsequent shift to the right that our country has since taken) that we now find ourselves with a President who is the son of a former CIA Director (who, according to author Mark Lane’s “Plausible Denial”, may very well have been in Dealey Plaza in the role of a CIA agent collecting and hiding evidence the day after the Assassination) who launched a war on Iraq based on the intelligence provided by the same CIA who is accused by many of carrying out JFK’s Assassination forty years ago this November – as the fear of terrorism permits the erosion of our individual rights and liberties and clouds our perspective, just as the fear of Communism did during the Cold War in 1963.

But the IDES OF MARCH CD does not dwell on the JFK Assassination. The first two CD’s named all the names and gave all the details about that. Of course, it refers to it, as any modern U.S. history-conscious work-of-art should. But the focus of this 15-song/60+ minute CD is the aftermath of it all - forty years later. It takes a hard look at our political figures - past and present, our religions, our ideas about patriotism; love - lost and found, human nature, heaven and hell; our scandals, the importance of family and how even the best things in life seem to require an acquired taste. It deals with what has become of our society and how much of it is a direct result of that sunny day in Dallas forty years ago this November.
